    windows 8.1 question

    my laptop came with windows 8, i replaced the stock hard drive with my hard drive and now i have windows 8.1, but it has alot of things i don't want on it. I have a fresh copy of windows 8.1 on a usb, if i use this on my new hard drive inside my laptop, can i use my windows 8 product key on my laptop for the windows 8.1 on my usb?>

    yes, but you'll need to use a generic key to run the installer. see this post. once installed, you can use your W8 key to activate W8.1 from within windows.

    just found out the USB has windows 8.1 PRO, and my product key is a OEM windows 8 regular, think it will work?

    no, but you can download the W8.1 core ISO and make your own bootable media. there's a walkthrough in this subforum somewhere or you could google it. (i'd link it for you but i'm mobile.)

    What about just removing the extra stuff? From the desktop, right click on the start button and select Programs and Features. Then select the program and click on uninstall.
