at work there is this running windows 98 kinda like the server and one of the computers running xp that runs programs and network drives from it (NOT by wireless).
the winxp pc successfully connected and everything seems ok except when running a program or accessing the network drives from the win98 server, it's really slow (for example you have to wait like 2 seconds after you pressed enter using a program run from that win98 pc) and it sometimes just freezes the winxp computer.
any suggestions on the possible problems that causes this??
i know windows 98 is old but yea.. don't know why cuz the place where i work they just don't want to bother changing it lol...

The 2 second delay may be because the hard disk has spun down. Check the power options.
What are the specs on the win98 machine? The slowness may be because that machine is just slow compared to what you get from newer machines.
I don't know why, but sometimes win98 doesn't get along with XP on a network. I had an ancient HP win98 machine which, if powered up would cause the XP machines to lose the ability to access the network. Other win98 machines didn't seem to be affected.
I never figured out why and ended up replacing the old HP machine. I have tried other win98 machines on the network with no problems so the problem may not be win98's fault.
