You will probably have to call Microsoft.

Call Microsoft and beg for mercy.

Or you can wait a month or two and it will "recharge".

Also protip: Never activate Windows during installation. Always do it afterwards, when all drivers are installed, everything is working, you have no need to reinstall.

Interesting. I was unaware that the MS servers reset idle key status after a period of time (but I guess it explains how I've reactivated the same OEM key many times over the years). :)

Does it take 6 months to reset a key? There was an old article stating that the key activation can be reset after 6 months.

Microsoft does not officially say how often it resets the activation server, but i have found six months to be about right.

Yeah, I don't know the exact time, but you're allowed a couple of minor upgrades at regular intervals, and sometimes (much rarer) you're allowed a full upgrade (which at least requires reactivation)

Simply reactivating (after a reinstall) without changing any hardware might be allowed more often than the full upgrade. I don't know the specifics of the system, just that it does depend on how long it's been since you last activated/changed hardware.

Not only it won't allow you to update but some features will be disabled until you activate it.
