Uhm, I think these guys are wrong.
Vista's backup utility will allow you to backup categories (and in Biz or Ultimate and entire drive), but not selectively choose a directory.
You will need to go a third party tool for that. I was thinking you might be able to pull it off with the command line (wbadmin) but that will only do volumes and mountpoints--and you cannot mount a directory natively in vista.
Here's a possible workaround
Use vistual substitute to mount a directory as avoluem (drive) and then use the wbadmin backup command line utility to back up your directory (ies)

I haven't tried it, but it should work -
Sorry, gerry - you're wrong on this one. Vista does indeed have this functionality:

OK, maybe I am missing something, but I cannot see in that article where it tells you how to backup only a specific file or directory. It allows you to back up categories, and you can RESTORE a specific file from the back up, and Windows Vista Business and Ultimate allow you to do a COMPLETE backup, but nowhere do I see how I can backup, say, C:\special files.
Now, if you own Bus or Ult, you can back up your whole drive and restore that folder, but the OP has Vista Home Pro, which means he only has the Category back up method--I think
What are you reading that I am missing? -
I think its possible to backup selected files or folders using Vista's Backup utility
but can resotore a file / folder
I am wrongsorry if i have given a misinformation
