Hello people,
I see this event (id 258) for 'defrag' running almost every day or once every two or three days.

My windows 7 disk defragmentation is disabled, but how come this one keeps running?
I saw on google that there is some windows 7 boot optimization (or similar) that runs every few days.. is this true?
Also, is there a way to disable it or is it just fine to let it be?
Thanks a lot in advance and cheers.

Take a look inside the Task Scheduler (Microsoft/Windows/Defrag) if you happen to have this task running
cheers ... -
Thanks @ Qhn
I did (and I have checked on that before too), but the entry there is disabled.. there is no scheduled defrag running.
I'd posted about this in another forum, and there was a response asking if I have / have had any other defragger in the laptop... and that obviously the windows defrag was running and not disabled (though it's disabled!! if u know what I mean...).
I have MyDefrag in the laptop.. other than that, I remember having tried other defragger's just out of curiosity and such.. but I have un-installed them long back.. So I don't know... -
First, I'm sorry for bringing up an old thread, but then, I didn't want to start a new one for an issue which concerns defragmentation and some program apparently scheduling the defragmentation.
Anyway, the problem is, I have scheduled defragmentation turned on, but when I try to open 'Disk Defragmenter' [Windows 7 Ultimate], I get a pop up message saying the defragmentation was scheduled using some other program, and I would have to first remove the settings. I go ahead and remove the settings, and change the time and schedule...
But when I come back, I see that the time is changed back to what it was before, and I keep getting that pop up message.
Now, I decided to try turning off the scheduled defragmentation, but it doesn't work - meaning, if I turn it off, and also delete the task from 'Task Scheduler', it doesn't disappear and keep' appearing - and when I go back to 'Disk Defragmenter' to turn it off, I keep seeing that pop up message saying defragmentation was scheduled using some other program and so on.....
Now, unlike during my previous post, I do not have any other defrag app's on my laptop and I use only the built-in defragmentation... I have also checked in NIS to see if the 'Idle Time Optimizer' was in any way scheduling the defragmentation, but the 'Idle Time Optimizer' has been disabled for a long time...
Any thoughts on what could be happening? How can I find out which program is scheduling the defragmentation?
PS., I did check extensively on google and I've found similar questions asked by others, but I didn't come across seen any solution or a fix or whatever.....
Thanks in advance.. Cheers.
