    Hi everybody.
Since i got my new pc 3 weeks ago, i used the windows backup system to backup my SSD where windows is installed into my data hard drive on which it is not installed the os.
mean while i've been adding on my data hard drive ( D ) some programs and general data but nothing ofcourse windows related.
now i found out that when i run the back up thingy, it does not detect anybackup anymore done on D because now D shows up as system... why? why would that happen? If i go in explorer D still shows up as non system i mean like this https://gyazo.com/1e4ab99e781eacac7043ba3149515c0c .. but the windows backup thingy now recognizes D as system.. together with C.
I tried to run an other third party software for back up and it recognizes correctly only C as the system unit..
i've not been installing many things on D. just some games from steam and random data.. utorrent .. not much

thanks so much for your help in advance

So just to clarify, the SSD is your main drive and the the hard drive is an external drive that you use for backup (is it plugged permanently, or only when you need it, like a USB external hard drive?)

You are on Windows 10 and you use its new Windows backup software, which saves files you chose to a specific location. What are the files you selected to be saved? For example I selected C:\users\YourUserName to backup all my personal files. Also, did you create a file on your D drive to store the save or did you save it to the drive directly?

no ,it's an hd i have permanently inside my pc. no i don't choose any file, i just try to create an image of my system using the windows tool. I also use ease todoback up and that software works fine recognizing only C as my system drive

That's why you should only use Macrium Reflect, smaller, more precise, and faster backups

I used it like 5 years ago, didn't try it lately. Why do you not want to use the best and most used and FREE solution by Macrium?

Edit: I see you opted for a different backup solution, you can ignore this comment if you wish.

When you made the backup did it create a folder where it stored the backup? So that when you look in D:\ there is only 1 folder containing the backup? I'm asking because I'm not familiar with this specific tool. Btw this is the tool from Control Panel > backup and restore (Windows 7) right?

Were the programs installed at the same location as the backup?
    Yes if:
-the backup is in a folder, the program was installed in the same folder.
-the backup is not in a folder, but directly on D:\, so the program was installed at the same location as the backup.

If an other backup program works, then it might be easier to just use another tool and create a backup with it instead.

    https://gyazo.com/4e3a9dc410e91c3cff722ea1f05bc5ca

this is how macrium reflect looks to me when i open it.. i don't understand what are all those " unformatted " partitions i see.. the view is way more complicated that the one i saw in other programs..

just a quick update , thanks god i had made a backup with this program... I removed intel driver for a mistake with revo unistaller and OMG.. it was all falling apart.. so i restored image with reflect and the backup i had done with @Phoenix worked like a charm and it saved me from certain death like restoring windows to 0.. it worked all perfectly and the image was perfect .. reflect also offers the possibility to do differential backup for free ( to do incremental you need the paid version)

Create a restore point before meddling with drivers, or before similar tasks. It only takes a couple seconds to makes, and restoring doesn't take long.

And I think Revo creates one by default if enabled in your windows settings.

I disabled the entire System restore via group policy editor entirely. That crap never worked when I needed to restore anything and it creates a big lag before program installations as its trying to create a new restore point. Never trust M!cr0$h4ft with your data [IMG]

Well it's been working fine for me and save a lot of time and trouble. I wouldn't only use that, but I find that less than a minute of my time for a quick check point is worth it. I use it manually, so only when I decide I need it.
