i was trying to install pc security ( to lock folders etc...) on my laptop
it's not the official version just a cheap 1 mb version that i have on my desktop
nothing did work and my laptop crashed many times (seems like it doesn't work on vista :s)
so i rebooted in safe mode>>>> system restore
and just because i seem to be lucky there is a restore point a couple of minutes before i installed this crappy software
i restored , it took only 5 mins to restore and here it is everything great
except for this error i get in startup wich is very annoying
"windows host process rundll32 has stopped working"
    nothing helpful in google
somebody posted the same problem as mine in microsoft forums 2 years ago , no one replied
if u have any suggestions feel free to talk
and if u have any info on this error regarding any loss of performance please notify me

Did you get an event ID or any sort of error code along with that message? Have you checked your event logs yet to see if anything got logged there?

Unfortunately, rundll32 is, if you will, a helper executable that allows access to functions that are kept inside the .dll files (dynamic link libraries) on the system, so the error is most likely being caused by whatever .dll something on your computer is trying to access via rundll32, and not by rundll32 itself.

As far as internet postings on various rundll32 problems, there's a rather lengthy (10 pages, 197 entries) thread on the TechNet forum that covers a number of different rundll32 problems, all of which gave the same error message you've got. The thread itself starts here. Read through the thread a bit and see if anything strikes a bell.

Did you check in your event logs to see if anything is showing up?
