I recently installed windows vista and it came with a "newer" version of windows media player, with a changed icon (which I really dont like)

It's like a blue box with and orange circle and a white arrow in the middle, not that shiny one I really liked..

It tryed installing the "older" version of windows media player but it wouldnt let me! it said: it is not possible to install or repair a later version of windows media player with an older one (its an older version of wm11)

I know it sounds weird, getting all upset because of an icon! but i really want to change it!

Is it possible to achieve with that resource hacker thing?

    thanks!

You can't roll back to a version that has never existed.

And because it would conflict with Microsoft's philosophy that they know what's best for you, you can't install older versions of their software on Vista (such as IE6 or older versions of WMV)

Just change the icon. You should be able to do that from explorer's folder options.

yeah you can definitely customize the icon.

but you should really check out some third party tools for musical organization, if thats what you are doing. windows media player has improved leaps and bounds, but there is still better to be had.

I think I know what he's referring to. The current Media Player Vista icon is different from the current icon on the XP version, which I presume is the one he liked. But that icon isn't in the choices on the "Change Icon" menu.

However, if you go to the Properties->Shortcut tab and click Change Icon, you can choose where to search for icons. So if you can find/create a version of the icon you liked and save it to your hard disk, you can change the icon to that version.

Now that I think of it, I prefer the XP icon, too!

    Thanks all

I already thought about the idea with the shortcut icon thing, but that's just a shortcut right? And I've searched all over the internet for the icon but I couldn't find any .ico files for it!

Even though it's not a bad idea, I was thinking.. Does anyone have the winxp executable for it? maybe it's compatible with the rest of the files?

icons are really sucking these days, like all the adobe ones
