Does anyone know if you will be able to download WMP 12 for Vista?

When you combine the issue of Microsoft wanting to distinguish Windows 7 from Windows Vista with the issue of Microsoft trying to bury Vista as soon as possible, the answer is "probably not".

Vista failed partly because too many of its features were backported to XP, and I don't think Microsoft is going to make that mistake again.

I tend to agree with Peon that they probably won't offer WMP 12 for Vista anytime soon, just because they'll want to keep it as another reason to upgrade to Windows 7. But... the good news is there doesn't seem to be all that much difference between the two. There are a few UI changes but they're not that major.

Another poster mentioned that WMP12's integrated h.264 codec is about 1.5-2x faster than the ffmpeg codec included in KMplayer, and about 2.5 times faster than the one in VLC player -- even faster than coreAVC. 1080P high bitrate (10mbps) Blue Ray disk rip plays flawlessly in WMP12.

wasn't there an early statement from MS that someone posted that WMP 12 will not come to Vista or XP?

Also - if you look at it, WMP 11 came out before Vista did, I think.

WMP 12 would be overdue if it were available for Vista.

The codec in question is part of Windows 7 - it's not specifically integrated into WMP12 so you can use it with any video player. However, that also means that even if you get WMP12 working on Vista, you won't be using it.

    Hello,

I am fdrominjacks. This is my first visit to site.I am new to this site, but I’ve enjoyed posting in your forums.I have had a while now to experience some of the improved features in Windows 7 more intimately. One of my favorite past times on the PC of course is listening to music.I tend to agree with Peon that they probably won't offer WMP 12 for Vista anytime soon, just because they'll want to keep it as another reason to upgrade to Windows 7.

Thank you very much and Stay connected with me.

That's an introduction if I've ever heard of one.
