hi i've a dell inspiron 1420 laptop, Vista Home Premium SP-2. i installed vista codec package (from Shark 007) version 5.8.0. but both windows mediaplayer & media center is not playing .dat and mpeg files. i am getting the message " windows media player has stopped working". when i uninstall codec package then both the players are playing mpeg files but the other formats like mov, avi, mkv, flv 3gp are not playing. i need one of these players because media buttons on my key board are not working on other players.

Install K-Lite codec Pack and your WMP will be playing everything....
