On my laptop, I have vista home premium 32 bit edition, whenever it goes into sleep mode and i wake it up, it will not shut down. It will idle at the shutting down screen until i manually hold the power switch down for a few seconds. It shuts down normally if it never goes into sleep mode though. Any ideas?

Have you downloaded the latest updates or sp1 by any chance? Sounds like its Vista itself thats the problem

    Try cleaning the registry anyway

Does it matter how long ago the Sleep was? Is this generally right after you wake it up?

No it should not. I had this similar issue with XP and I believe it has something to do with the Windows aramada because I have heard about this on Vista aswell. People usually have issues coming into/going out of vista, but it sounds that it comes out of sleep ok and is usable, but you want to shut it down. GO to http://www.yamicsoft.com/ and get the vista manager demo. There should be an option buried in one of the options concerning windows will not shutdown, click to fix. Good luck and if you cant get it, I will give some better info in the mornin.

    u could try:
. to shorten the shutdown time of any apps
    . unload dll tweak

it was possible that ur comp was still in the middle of "waking up" when u tried to shut it down, and windows trying to shut them down cleanly

    review ur AV settings

close off all apps and go to sleep mode, see when u woke it up and shut it down. Difference in delay?

    cheers ...

try test it in safe mode, since safe mode only loads minimal set of drivers and programs.
