Type UAC in the start menu and click the UAC option that comes up. The window that comes up will have a slider to change how UAC acts.

    Same as goofball says.

Gee, no mentions of the "dangers" in disabling UAC, if it has already been on for a while? Little things like lost files normally stored in the program files directories. Or lost registry settings?

Ah, just kill it, who cares. Right? ...shakes head...

Agreed, disabling UAC is the stupidest idea ever. And highly not recommended. It prevents from program from access the system files it should not touch, it prevent human error (if you open a picture and it asks for admin privileges, you know something is not right - read: virus). blocks virus infections, and other security benefits, like many remote code execution, and web browser(via or not a plug-in) attacks.

UAC should not be disabled at all. It's something that you need to get used to it. If you wonder, in Linux, you need to open the terminal and type in "sudo" followed by a command on what you try to do...AND enter user name and password EVERY TIME. I prefer a dialog box any day, thank you.

In XP day, many people don't have a stable and clean system after 1 year.. they need to re-install, as the system is crapping on them. Why with Vista and Windows 7 this is no longer true? Magic? or UAC?

I provide no support for those who disable UAC, if they disable UAC and have a problem, I just tell them to re-install Windows.

Correction.. The creation of UAC and just about all other "New Features" in Vista/Win7 are the stupidest ideas ever.

I wonder what you would think about my not using anti-virus for the last 5+ years.
Ask me how many problems I've had that have taken more than half an hour to fix.
How much time have I saved with not having daily update notices and software running in the background that slows the computer at all times?

Wow, you are so totally awseome and everyone should do just like you and run their machine without any antivirus or firewall. Gee, I bet you ride in a car without seat belts too.

When I grow up I want to be just like you.

    Gary

BTW no one really cares how much time you have saved while being stupid.

You know what is a stupid idea... locks on doors! I mean really, EVERY freaking time I leave my place I have to open the lock, go out, close the door, get my keys out form my pocket, and lock the door. And the reverse procedure when I come in. Then you loose your keys once day, and your in a pickle jar. OBVIOUSLY it's me that will go in my house, why have locks! It's such a waist. STUPID idea, for STUPID people.

Using least privilege rights is a basic tenant of good computer security. You can think that you're a genius and that you'll be safe regardless of what procedures you choose to follow or not follow, and quite frankly, as a basic consumer, you probably have a good chance of scraping by nonetheless.

However, UAC is Microsoft's attempt at least privilege rights and it's a good idea for all consumers. Linux has the sudo command for escalating privileges, Windows now has UAC. It's highly recommended to use it.

Trust me, it's not US that is "way out there". You are the one who doesn't want to listen to reason. And that's fine. Just don't expect to espouse such irresponsible actions here to other users and expect it to go unchallenged.
