if i am to get a new laptop (sager 7950 to be mine soon....), i have purchased a dell dimension 4700, i came with the OS cd for XP home. Can i install that on my laptop? will it not work? Is it illegal?

As far as I know you can use your copy of Windows XP Home Edition on any one laptop at a time. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).
So if you plan to simply install it on your new laptop (and not use your old laptop) it shouldn't be a problem at all.
You may have some problems trying to use both laptops at once running the same copy of Windows XP. -
is the Dell's XP home disc an OEM copy? Usually OEM licenses are not transferrable to another computer. Check the Windows sticker on the Dell. You can use the disc to install, but you most likely can't use the Dell CD key to activate.

Dell
BLAH BLAH BLAH. . . all that other Dell crap
maybe this cleared it up a bit?
All the windows sticker says is :
(the windows logo):
Designed for:
Microsoft Windows XP -
usually the OEM disk like that is also BIOS locked, meaning it will only work on that OEM. GL

Yeah I don't think it will work. It could possibly work on another Dell but it won't work on a Sager.

You could also purchase an OEM version from something like tigerdirect instead of buying the full version retail

sometimes retailers have a requirement to purchase a system component like a harddrive to qualify for OEM pricing on windows, just FYI.
