hi guys. Does anyone know what would cause this error 0xc0000001 its got me confused. I've reinstalled twice with the same result ,but here's a catch it did not do it when i had the c drive(has vista on it main os) in the second bay,but with the c drive it would not give me the dual boot option. does anyone have any insight on this?

Are you saying you have Vista on drive c: and want to install XP on drive d:?

If so it sounds like the Vista boot file is corrupted. You can repair it by inserting the Vista disc and booting from it and perform a repair on the OS. It will fix the boot file.

In order to properly install XP after Vista is already on the system you will need a program called EasyBCD. http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1

Too late now but you could have probably gotten Vista back by repairing the boot file which is easy to do. Anyways if you are using the same drive with two partitions or two physical hard drives with two separate partitions it will be easier to install Windows XP first !

Then install Vista and it will overwrite the XP boot file and you'll get your multi-boot screen. :)

EasyBCD is only needed for a system that has Vista installed first and Windows XP gets added later.

yeah you are right i have two drives drive c has vista, drive d is the one xp pro is being installed on. I just tried it again with the same result. Here's what i have done i slipped streamed the sata driver in to the os and burned it to a dvd .i am thinking some how when i copied my xp cd to the computer some files would not copy because it keeps telling me such and such file could not be copied . so i am thinking thats where my trouble is and the computer will not pick up the usb with the sata controller driver on it.The only other thing i can think of to do is go buy a usb floppy drive and install from the orignal os disc
