I keep getting this error whenever i try ripping mp3s. I tried the solution on windows website but it didn't help. I also read that i could rip mp3s at a different biterate but that didn't work either. One thing I noticed is that I don't even have the option to rip at 128 with mp3s. The only mp3 options i have are 56, 192, 256, and 320. Does that seem right? I would just reinstall wmp but i have googled this problem and found that reinstalling doesn't always solve it (and i'm not sure how to completely get rid of the original). I know i can use other burning software (i use Nero all the time) but i find wmp convienent, when it is working properly at least. Someone suggested that i delete the lowsamplerate registry key itself instead of just the value but i figured i'd check with you guys first. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Use CDex and the LAME encoder dll. Free, and lots better than WMP.
-
Personally use Cheetah converter which also uses lame.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but i would rather solve the problem than forget about it. I already use a different converter myself but WMP is more convenient for my girlfriend. She is not exactly proficient with computers and again, i don't want to just let the problem stand.

I saw another solution about just deleting the value, but then I saw this one about deleting the actual key. I would delete the key and see if that solves your problem.

So i deleted it and still no go.

Tomas,
Trying giving this link a try. If you only have limited sample rates, you probably need to add some into your registry. Don't know if this will fix your problem, but it should add some extra sample rates to your list.

Hope it helps.

Anyone else find it amusing that the encoder is called "lame" ? I mean, it just kinda sounds funny... its a lame encoder. Hah! Get it?
..
I'll shut up now. -
Thanks for the help so far but nothing seems to be working. Could someone please post what they have under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ MediaPlayer \ Settings \ MP3Encoding" on their machine to compare. Right now i have it set to:
(Default) REG_SZ (VALUE NOT SET)
Highrate REG_DWORD 0x0002ee00 (192000)
Lowrate REG_DWORD 0x0000dac0 (56000)
MediumHighrate REG_DWORD 0x0001f400 (128000)
MediumRate REG_DWORD 0x0000fa00 (64000)
PreferredCodecPath REG_SZ Mpeg layer-3
PreferredCodecPath REG_S C:\windows\system32\codeca.acm
I know my rates are off because i just changed them according to the link above. I also don't have a Lowratesample key because i deleted it, again because of the advice above. Thanks again for the help. -
Here's mine (screenshot):

Great, thanks. I'll copy yours and see what happens.

You guys (and girl) are FRIGGIN AWESOME. My girlfriend and I can't thank you enough. I just copied Shockwave's registry and Waalaa...i'm back in business. Thanks again for coming together to solve my problem...*weeping noises*...I promised myself I wouldn't cry...

Congrats on getting the problem fixed. But just for future reference, before making changes to your registry, make sure you expore the branch you're about to make changes to. This way, you can always restore the settings back at any time. Located under File -> Export in Registry Editor. Just goto the section you're about to make changes to and do the export trick. It'll export to a .REG file. After you've made your "tweaks" and you find out it doesn't work or made things worse, just double click on the exported .REG file and it'll re-import the original settings back and will automatically get rid of the changes you made to that branch.

Good to know. I will definitely keep that in mind. It will save me from having to write it all down, like i did for this problem.
