My daughter has a new laptop with vista. She completed a homework assignment in word (office 97) on the vista loaded laptop. She saved the document, then emailed it as an attachment to a different computer with xp. When she tried to open it, the document was all symbols.
Since she will be doing this alot, how can I avoid that in the future?
thanks

What program are you using on the xp pc to open it? Corel? or Microsoft office 2007?
If you are using Microsoft office 2007, it can't be fixed as conversions are totally different for office 2007. -
Have you got office 97 installed on your XP PC as well?

In Office 2007, save the document as a Word 97-2003 document and then it will be fully compatible with Office 97-2003.
I also think that you may want to upgrade at least to 2003. -
I have office 97 installed as well on the xp computer.
She has to do this because her laptop does not have a printer so she emailed it to the xp computer that is hooked up to a printer and tried to open it and print it.
What can I do?
thanks -
This is what you can do, copy and paste it into a Wordpad and send it through email. Try it now, it should work fine. Then if you need copy and paste it into a word document. Done.
