i've created a workgroup for 3 computers (2 with windows vista and 1 running xp).
the setup is one main computer is connected to internet via modem connected with a wireless router and the 2 other computers through this wirelsss router.

i want all the wireless computers to have access to the main computer and vice versa.

even though i've set no restriction at all and full control to my main computer's shared folders, some of the folders can't be accessed by the other computers wirelessly. it displays that they might not have permissions to use this network resource. why only some are allowed and some others not?

and when i try to connect from my main computer to the wireless connected computers, it displays that i don't have permission too and to contact the administrator of this server to find access permissions. so here who's the workgroup server?? i thought servers only applies to domains?

don't know if that was the problem too because before all these computers were members of a domain (all working fine) and i just changed to workgroup. or maybe the router settings does matter?

please advice.. this is driving me nuts.. thanks

Try disabling all your internal firewalls temporarily just to see if they're a problem.

First, make sure all computers belong to the same workgroup.

Second, disable simple file sharing on all computers.

Third, create identical users and passwords on all computers.

Fourth, specifically share files/folders on each computer (by default, only the Shared Documents folder is visible to the workgroup).

After you do that, all computers should be able to see and share files.

I don't know about Vista, and if you have XP Home, you can't disable simple file sharing.

In XP Pro: open up My Computer, select Tools -> Folder options. Under the View tab, scroll to the bottom. Disable "Use simple file sharing".
