I was trying to figure out how to play my 360 on my laptop because the resolution is way better. My xbox and laptop both have hdmi ports. I have an hdmi cable and I know my laptop can send a signal out but can it recieve one? I would also like to know if there is software for free or cheap that could show the signal from my xbox on my laptop?

No you cannot. You would need a TV tuner, and even the HDTV ones don't have HDMI/DVI in.
