I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I put it here![]()
I had the weirdest idea yesterday. I thought that it might be possible to turn a xbox 360 into a pc. You could do it by opening the hard drive case that makes it look pretty and place in a new one with xp or linux since the xbox has low RAM. What I was wondering if this is even possible. Like, would it need to have its own special drivers?
I've been waiting impatiently for 24 hours to ask thisthanks!

check youtube, I think i saw a video of someone doing this a little while ago. He got flamed b.c people dont like to be innovative. If you find the vid, try contacting the guy who made it, he probably has all the answers your going to need.

The best guy in his area, Ben Heck~
His latest xbox model, the Xbox 360 Portable. You've gotta search about installing a Linux interface though...
-
hmm, maybe I could ask Ben how to do that?
-
I think it will be difficult to impossible to do due to the restrictions on it. Plus, you would have to be an excellent programmer.
-
you can do it with the original xbox i think but not the 360 its not x86 architecture, dont even think its ppc, so dont know, the old xbox should be possible due to the fact it was essentially a pentuim 3 pc
-
It's not x86, so Windows XP won't work.
Xbox 360 uses the PowerPC architecture, actually. It'd be interesting to try to run a PPC version of OS X on it... but I think that would be awfully tricky due to all the other hardware differences.
I think your best bet is Linux. There are some Linux distros that will work on PPC architecture. I wouldn't expect it to be too easy to get it all working though. -
Microsoft has their box locked up pretty tight. Plus using PowerPC, things would be very difficult, especiallly with the NXE update.

yeah, didnt realise it was ppc architecture just knew it wasnt x86 and given that no one has yet managed to crack the rsa encyption thing on the dashboard to allow homebrew discs to boot and the fact it has no convetional bios etc it realistically aint gonna work. Everything in the 360 is proprietary so you would need to write drivers for everything thats assuming you can get the tech specs for the i/o controllers etc
xbox 360...into a pc?
