use a virtual machine like virtualbox or msft virtual pc. google is your friend.

firstly check to be sure you have the most recent versions of your problematic programs.

It's likely that the games will not run in the virtual machine.

OP - in the event that you want to set up a dual boot of Win7 and XP, it takes a bit of work but there are tons of sites and forums (here, too) that have detailed instructions. Yes, you'll need to make partition for XP. You'll also need to use a program called nLite to slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP installation disc. XP does not natively support SATA, so will not recognize your hard drive. Once you've included the correct drivers into the installation, it should work pretty well.

Before you do anything else, make sure you have the recovery dvd's burned and current backups of everything important.

I tried and failed, basically I killed my Win7 installation. It was unintentional but I expected that and I had nothing to lose. In the end I first installed XP, then Win7 and that worked smooth as it should.

and there is a lot of confusing threads as to how to do this properly. I will do some more research and give it a try.
