Got my refurbed m4500 with i5-540 and 880m.. just put in ocz ram at 8gbs.. it is 1333 ddr3 , and everything starts fine, but i did notice that this as well as the factory 4gb 1333mhz sticks would only show 1067 in bios....
seems as i may not be able to run at 1333, nor adjust my memory timings???
Any insight would be appreciated thanks!

This is a chipset issue. For reasons best known to Intel, if you install a quad core CPU then the RAM will run at 1333MHz but with dual core CPUs it will only run at 1067MHz.

However, don't lose sleep over this issue. The timings are lower at 1067MHz so the effective memory bandwidth is very similar while the lower frequency means lower power consumption.

Memory controller, actually. The memory controller integrated into Arrandales can only run up to 1066 MHz RAM, while the memory controller in Clarksfield CPUs can run the 1333 MHz. The rest is true, though.

Thanks so much for the reply! Funny then how Dell ships it with 1333 mhz..
so is my 8-8-8-16 timings where they should be at? THis is according to CPU-Z..

Thanks for the previous replies !:D

Maybe either because it simplifies their inventory or because there is no significant price difference.
Those timings are OK (and the same as my OCZ 1333MHz RAM running at 1066MHz (and the timings would be 9-9-9-20 at 133MHz)).
