    Gaming desktop

I'm pretty sure this is an issue specific to the motherboard you're using (or a particular group of motherboards). I've never seen this option in a Dell notebook BIOS.

You got me thinking more about this. I have an Inspiron 530 desktop that I had 3 Gb of RAM in. It now has 64 bit Windows 7 on it. I had read some threads on other forums where people complained about the inability of the Inspiron 530 to see all their RAM even with a 64 bit OS. I went ahead and removed my 2 512 meg sticks of RAM and installed 2 2 Gb sticks I had left over from upgrading my gaming PC. It now has 2 x 1 Gb sticks and 2 x 2 Gb sticks of RAM. All 6 GB of RAM are recognized. I must have a different motherboard revision or BIOS version than the people having that problem.

Now I'm thinking of upgrading my Vostro 1500 to 4 Gb of RAM.

BTW, the motherboard that had to have memory remapping enabled is an Asus P5B-E.

I have a Vostro 200 desktop (same as Inspiron 530) and it has no problem seeing 6.5 gigs of memory.

Hey Everybody, I know I'm a bit late to the party, but this thread helped me decide whether to try upgrading my Vostro 1500 to 6Gb of Ram once I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 so I just wanted to post my results.

Success! I first flashed my BIOS to A06 then upgraded Windows (from XP) then installed the 2Gb stick under the keyboard, booted up to make sure it was recognized, then installed the 4Gb stick on the bottom slot, and sure enough, Windows recognized all 6Gb once I booted back in!

I have to admit I'm a little tempted to try to go for 8Gb now, but I'm pretty sure that my bottleneck is likely my processor at this point, so I don't even know that I'd see much of a performance boost.

Anyway, I just wanted to contribute in case anyone was thinking of trying this; it works!
