Well Newegg used to have a good selection of mobile Core 2...til Intel stopped making them. You can find a good selection of OEM mobile Core 2 Duo processors on Ebay, and make sure you stress test the processor. But if it works when you put it in, more than likely you are good for many years.

Yes that is the correct part number. You also need to buy the GPU UW390 for the 8600M GT 256 MB or KU907 for the 8400M GS 128MB

Are both of those better than what I have right now? (Intel integrated VC)

It really depends on what you are doing. For gaming, yes they are light years better than Crestline graphics. If you are just doing YouTube, it won't really make that much of a difference. Sorry to lead you on towards changing out your motherboard, but in all honesty your system could just make do with a CPU and RAM upgrade, possibly a hard drive.

You're right. I found a listing on craigslist with somebody getting rid of their Inspiron 1520 for a very cheap price. The bad thing is I didn't get a response yet, so I don't know if it will have all the goodies I need.

Do you know the part number for the 2x2GB memory? The one made by Hynix.

You don't need the part number for the RAM.
Just buy any 2Gb DDR2-667Mhz SODIMM and it will fit.

Yup any 4 GB DDR2 kit will work. I personally have 4 GB DDR2 800 Crucial (clocks down to 667), been going fine with 4 GB for nearly a year now.

I just installed 4GB (2x2GB) of DDR2 RAM from G.Skill, and I have Windows XP. For some reason it's showing up as 3.49GB. Is that just a glitch? Do I actually have 4GB?

You don't have a 64-bit operating system. So it doesn't utilize the full 4GB as the rest is dished off to the rest of the system, if you install a 64-bit, you can see and use the full 4GB.
