Hi, I am in the process of purchasing a Refurbished E6510 (not from DELL), and I was curious to know how much I should expect to pay DELL to extend my service policy for Accidental Coverage. I don't expect fine numbers, I just need a ball park estimate, if I find that it is reasonable, then I'll purchase, if not then I'll have to figure something out.

    Thanks.

You might get a better faster answer by completing MOST of the online purchase/ checkout process or by chatting online with a Dell agent.

I tried this, they gave me a phone number.

I called the phone number and got directed to a sales department, then they directed me back to warranty department, then to technical specialist, then to sales, then to warranty, back to sales. It was the worst phone call experience I've ever dealt with. Following with them telling me they could not help me out if I did not have a service code... I hope that if I purchase this computer it will be a reasonable cost to add the warranty.

I actually spoke to a rep online who was trying to offer me accidental. He even offered me a pretty good deal on the display when I wanted to upgrade my 900p to a 1080p.

I have a refurbished unit by the way, if you'd like I could try and get in contact with someone to find out.

That would be great. I was given ball park figures from the two resellers I've been talking with and there is a 140 dollar difference, so I'd trust that a estimate from DELL for the same model would be the best price to look at. Thanks for your offer.

    This sounds very familiar !

I've been bounced around on the phone, by email, and by chat. The reps always weasel out of assuming reponsibility (if you go the chat route ask to be put into the Latitude queue before going any further, that way you won't have to say everything twice :)). Too bad we can't copy and paste sentences on the phone...

But at least you can talk to them, and they have good warranty service, so I'm not complaining. It's kind of funny sometimes.

I got quoted $290.96. He said it didn't make a difference if it was purchased concurrently or not. The only caveat was that after the return period you could no longer purchase accidental.

Excuse my limited vocabulary, and my urge to not define concurrently and caveat...

Does this mean if I purchase a laptop from somewhere else I will not be able to get the accidental because it is not technically being sold, or even existed in the return period (from DELL)?

    Thanks again for your assistance!

I'm not sure if he was just trying to get a sale (as he thought I was the one interested in the warranty) but from what you understand that sounds to be the case. That is, you have to purchase it from them or whomever you buy it from would have had to had purchased it from them and it has to be within the original return period to tack on any additional warranty.
