I am adding an Intel 310 mSATA PCIe 80GB drive to my Dell M4500 running Win7 64 bit. I have read about 2000 posts. Here is what I understand I need to do. Am I missing anything?

    1. Back up all of my data to an external drive. (just to be safe.)
    2. Shut down. remove power cable.
    3. Open back cover.
    4. Install SSD.
    5. Close cover.
    6. Start, Press F12 and get into BIOS.
    7. Change the primary boot drive to the SSD drive.
    8. Turn off RAID.
    9. Insert Win 7 installation DVD.
    10. Install Win 7 to SSD drive.
    11. Remove all my frequenty used programs from hard drives.
    12. Reinstall the programs in SSD.

    Questions:

    1. Am I on the righjt track.
    1. How do I clean up my harddrive of the old OS installation.

    Thanks in advance.

You don't need to turn off RAID but you'd preferably want AHCI.

You don't necessarily need to remove the programs from the old drive though they will take up space. If need be, back up the data to another source then format your old drive and remigrate the data.
