Dell does not release 64-bit Quickset for Vostro 1310 and 1510. The 32-bit ones won't work on 64 bit Vista.

That means you won't know how loud you change your volume, or whether it is muted or not. I tried to install Quickset x64 for other laptops but all shows "unsupported system" during the installation.

The workaround is to download the latest Dell ControlPoint System Manager.

This is the link: Dell ControlPoint System Manager

It is compatible with E4200, E4300 and M6400. However it installs successfully on my Vostro 1310 running on Vista Business x64. The volume indicators works, the mute notification works, change of brightness works. The only drawback is ControlPoint does not work with wifi/BT indicators. You flip the switch and there won't be any indicators for it on the screen.

    cheers~

Hmm, I've heard both good and bad things about ControlPoint. I know I probably won't get all of the E-series features but I might try it out as QuickSet is looking pretty dated, pretty quicklyIt's a shame that Dell doesn't update things like that across notebook lines. For example, the Alps touchpad drivers for the E-Series has some pretty cool "gesture" features, I tried installing it on a whim and it worked just fine.

I'm in the same boat with a Vostro, so thanks for pointing out that whether you go 32 or 64, with the current choices available, it won't work.

Is ControlPoint a competing product to QuickSet offered on different lines? Some of the features seem to overlap based on the little description I've read of them. Is one on the way out?

Can you do a selective install of ControlPoint (as I think you can QuickSet, if it ever got that far), or is it all or nothing?

Dell really needs to get on the stick with the Vostro line. Just because they don't sell it with 64-bit quite yet is not an excuse. It's extremely difficult to hunt down the 5 or 6 drivers necessary for 64-bit on Vostro.

Update: I can report success with a Vostro 1710 (Vista x64) and Dell ControlPoint System Manager, v.1.1.00000, A07, which was released Nov. 17th. To find it, just search on the Dell support site for "controlpoint" and reduce the results to Vista 64-bit. The version mentioned above is in the 9.x series but is older, so I guess they decided to start over with the versioning. This program appears to be the only way to get the function keys (etc) going in Vista 64-bit on the Vostro.

For QuickSet for 64-bit versions of Vista or Windows 7 on the Vostro 1500 (and probably many of the others), all you need is this Dell driver and you're good to go:

ControlPoint is the replacement for QuickSet on Dell's new E series latitude system. I don't believe that it's spread to the rest of Dell's lineup.

Thanks for the link BfB. That file worked perfectly on my Vosto 1700 that's now running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. It was the last thing I needed to get all the features on my notebook working like new (w/ Vista x32)
