Any generic ALPS drivers for the E6x20 series?

    Got myself an E6220 and I am very happy with it except for the awful Alps touchpad - laggy, lazy, imprecise. Previous experience with the Latitude series (D420, E6400) suggests that this can be simply resolved with generic (3rd-party) drivers (usu., Acer drivers).

    So - any generic Alps drivers for the E6x20 series? Both drivers on the Dell support site (A9 and A10) are poor in typical Dell-Alps fashion.

    Interesting. I've not had any issues with mine. Plus my two-finger scroll works almost as good as my MacBook. The other gestures aren't near as good, but two-finger scrolling is great.

    As for alternative drivers, I don't know of any. I'm looking at modding some though. ALPS touchpads that Dell uses are "GlidePoint", and they have several driver suites for those...

    thanks HAL; it depends a lot, I guess, on the kind of "gliding" one is accustomed to. for my taste, the Latitudes have always been a mess (I, for one, am a huge admirer of Toshiba's Synaptics - the touchpad on the P500 series is one of the best I have seen, though the gestures are rather basic)

    if you manage to mod generic ALPS drivers, please let us know. my experience with the Acer drivers on the E6400 has been excellent, while the original Dell drivers were quite annoying.

    If you could do me a favor... would you post the complete hardware ID of the touchpad?

    I'm in OSX and can't get to that information. That would actually help me on two fronts. lol. I'm modding ALPS drivers for OSX and Windows. :)

    since I find the touchpad frustrating, and could find no recent ALPS drivers, I've installed the old generic / Acer drivers I use on my E6400. the cursor is still a bit laggy (not as precise as on the E6400), but better than with the Dell drivers, while 2-finger scrolling and other gestures are clearly more dependable. this is a 2-year old piece of software...

    I'm still working on the generic drivers, but I really think you have a faulty touchpad. I'm not having any issues like that with mine, and in fact... aside from it being a bit smaller, I find mine indistinguishable from my other notebooks with Synaptics touchpads.

    more likely I am very ... touchy - pun intended - about my pads. the e6220 one with dell drivers acts pretty much like the e6400 one with dell s/w. i also had a d420 and it had the same laggy feel.

    and using generic alps drivers is a clear improvement in the e6220 case and a tremendous one in the e6400 one.
