    I have 4GB of RAM.

I have two hard drives, and I swap them out. One of the hard drives runs Arch Linux and the other Windows 7. With Arch Linux I use "sensors -f" to get the temp, and with Windows I use coretemp. The VM has Windows 7 installed, and I use that on Arch Linux.

When I test my temps and get a high temp, I feel the bottom of the laptop and it feels extremely hot and is consistent with the temp readings. Also, the fan stays on virtually all the time.

I've had the following results with a D630 with the Intel video chipset.

    2.0 GHZ - T7300 - ~65C
    2.6 GHZ - T7800 - ~89C
    2.6 GHZ - T9500 - ~79C

This is when running Prime95 In Place Large FFTs (max heat)

When undervolting I've reduced my temps about 20%.

Here's the link to the undervolting guide for the benefit of the others. I would recommend giving it a try: Most of the T series CPUs are stable at 1.15V or lower.

Two of my work colleagues have had issues with their notebooks (a D620 and D630 respectively) during the past week and HWmonitor showed temperatures up in the 70s (C). I took a look inside the D630 to see if the cooling system was clogged and, while the fan was dirty, I could see no big problem but was surprised how puny the cooling system was in comparison with my E6400. Both have an nVidia GPU which seems to run hotter than the CPU so it must contribute significantly to the heat.

Even my Intel X3100 system gets a bit toasty so I'm not surprised you found that the cooling system is a tad "undersized"
