I can't manage to get the third item on sound properties ("Digital Audio") when using DisplayPort/HDMI.
I can see only "speakers" and "headphones" in the playback devices.

    What I have/did:
    I have the Dell Latitude e6400 (Windows 7, 32b).
I did connect my laptop to the AVR/TV via Displayport/HDMI.
I did Install the latest drivers for the audio/video from the dell support website.
I can hear the sound, I see the video.

    What is the problem:
I can't get my PC working with AVR/TV in more the 2.0 channels.
I tried an my AVR works fine in multichannel with TV, Tuner, USB but not PC.

I did I do to fix this:
    - I spent past couple of days on thisdoing the reasearch on the forums.
    - I tried to installed various codecs packs (like k-lite).
    - I tried to install varios applications and setup output channels (like MPC, KM player,...).
    - I tried to check the audio/ video drivers and settings.

I think it will be the Computer/Driver/SW related problem... BUT STILL

I can't manage to get the third item on sound properties ("Digital Audio") when using DisplayPort/HDMI.
I can see only "speakers" and "headphones" in the playback devices.

So I can do the additional setting about this (set the pas-thru directly on the driver, etc.)
I spent past couple of days on this and still cand find anything.

Does anybody know some elegant solution to make it work?
    The drivers working on E6400 w DisplayPort/HDMI?

    Thanks a lot,

I have the exact same issue. Under control panel/sound, my E6400 shows IDT HD speakers and microphone, no hdmi digital option. When I plug into my new Samsung TV using a dell displayport to HDMI adapter a third option appears in control panel, but it indicates 2 channel sound, period. My Onkyo receiver display confirms that it's conventional 2 chnl stereo. Just to be sure it's not some hookup issue, I substituted my E6400 with my daughter's dell M1330 laptop with HDMI plug and voila....full digital dolby surround sound.

I'm about to take a drastic approach....uninstalling idt HDxxx drivers and trying realtek drivers.

    Hi,

I did contact nvidia support about this issue. They replied that surround is not supported with this chipset. I use another laptop fot the movie playback now. I still believe that pass tru + realtek will solve the problem but I had not enough time to test it.
