Do you want to add a backlight (ie make a single CCFL screen a dual CCFL screen) or replace one?

The former is basically impossible, and while the latter is certainly possible, it's a paint in the butt...

    Thanks for reply.
No I am not talking about LCD backlight but what I need is Keyboard backlight.

Here is a sample on youtube:
    LINK

I had a E6400 with backlit keybord that is really addictive. Now I got a used E6500 from ebay, thinking all of 6K series come with backlit KB by default but mine didn't so thought it is defective.
I did buy a separate backlight KB from ebay that after installing it on E6500 showed no light. Very disappointed and thinking it is a defective keyboard, before calling seller, swapped the keyboarders with E6400 and the new keyboard is fine. Old KD of 6400 does not shine light on 6500. I guess the backlight is a property of Motherboard and not keyboard itself but the youtube remains questionable for its accuracy or I am doing something wrong.

No, the backlight should be a part of the keyboard, not the motherboard. A backlit keyboard should work with an E6500 that did not come with a backlit keyboard. I don't know why yours wouldn't work because it should - try reseating it a couple times maybe?

Backlit keyboards are a property of the keyboard only. Motherboards are the same for all systems, with the exception being for Intel or Nvidia graphics.

If it's not lighting up, have you tried pressing Fn+Right Arrow to toggle the backlight? Also go to the BIOS and make sure Keyboard Illumination is Enabled.

    Thanks guys, you are great.
    It works now.
What I did was to enable in BIOS, repeat installation of keyboard physically and finally FN + Right arrow key.

    Thanks again.
