Why are these two features so rarely available together??

All I have found is the teeny Vostro 3300, and expensive Latitude models. Why no middleground for 14/15/16/17 inch screen machines?

Am I being too picky....? Probably. But seems daft where you are able to customise just about every other feature.

Edit - Just found it. Vostro 3500 it is then. Been away for a while, is this a good machine? Upgrading from a Vostro 1500.

If you talk to a Dell rep, the Latitude is sure to come WAY down in price.

Also be sure to check out the Dell Outlet, Latitudes are quite affordable from there. The Vostro cannot compare to the Latitude though, the additional price tag is definately worth it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have been quite impressed with my current Vostro that has suffered daily use for two years. CD drive is failing but other than that it's still ticking quite well. Built like a brick ehouse too!

What's the build quality like on the newer Vostros, and in a nutshell, how is the Latitude a better machine?

The Latitude has a magnesium alloy chassis and support for accessories such as docking and modular bay devices, such as second hard drive or battery (for D-series). In addition, they have 3+ year lifecycles with a standard 3-year warranty, and better support with regards to drivers and such.

The Vostro is inbetween consumer and business laptops. They have some more consumer-minded features, as well as business-grade reliability. That being said, they are still a couple steps short of the Latitude/Precision.
