blue is faster among other brand in its category
blue consumes less batt than black
5400 spins are less vibrations compared with 7200

Maybe so, but i have both the 250 gig blue and the 250 gig black and the black is not only faster, also 16MB cache but it is as quite as the Blue, and i have yet to see any vibrations.

Now the Hitachi Drives and the Seagate drives both vibrate a lot.

if your used to using images you will be extremely pleased with how fast you can make a full image to a fast esata hard drive , ur only limited by the esata drives write speed really

and no hard drive will ever be able to handle as much abuse as an ssd

you could even install all your audio apps and files on the esata drive and plug it in when you need to , unless the machine is only used for audio ?

Which Seagate drives and which Hitachi drives vibrate a lot? Exact model please. I've got Momentus 7200.4 ST9250410ASG in E6500. HDD is clicking/freezing constantly. No vibration. Notice that palpable vibrations depends on notebook's construction.

LPTP-LVR, when you install a new hdd, please let us know.

this was with the Hitachi HTS543225L9A300
and with the Seagate ST9500420AS but that could be expected. the Seagate was in my M4400 and it did vibrate a lot, but it seems the 5400 RPM model is a little better (portable drive that i have does not vibrate). I never had any clicking or freezing. The 500 gig is not in my Macbook Pro and i do feel the vibrations when it spins hard.

Just remember guys, even with the same model of HDD, there can be lots of variation in performance, power consumption, noise, and heat. Some laptops are more prone to amplifying noise and heat. And lastly, each person has a different threshold for what they consider noisy and hot...

I'm getting a 320gb BLUE tomorrow...was going for the black but it seems to be quite popular...and out of stock with no expected delivery date. So i just ordered 1 now for the E6400 and i'll see when i upgrade my m4400...maybe with SSD + 320gb

    @bodysushi
did you do the firmware upgrade for the Seagate disk? for me that solved the clicking.

lptp i wouldnt worry too much about this freefall sensor , laptop drives are quite resiliant to bumps , iv only ever broke one drive and it was a seagate 750GB drive i had hooked up via a usb convertor

it fell of the table onto wood flooring , and broke my heart !

i would be more concerned about your choice of machine if you were managing to shock/drop a laptop when its powered on that you would need a freefall sensor

I wish I could. There's no firmware upgrade for ST9250410AGN neither on Seagate's nor Dell's website at the moment.

Ok so now i put the blue in my E6400.
It keeps making weird noises!! :( At intervals of maybe 20sec or so when the laptop is idle it sounds like the heads parking or something but it keeps doing that....usually its 2 times right after eachother, intervals are shorter now too :(
I don't thinks it is actually the heads parking but what can this be? driving me crazy really
