I bought this laptop from dell outlet in last week. Everthing works fine but I just noticed the bright (white) spots this moring. I've contacted customer service and will return for repair tomorrow.

Never encountered this problem before. The spots are located at the middle bottom of the LCD. The screen is 1280*800. The spots area looks much brighter than the rest of all other areas.

    Anyone has any idea?

It would seem that way, though not everyone using the laptop docked/with the screen closed noticed a problem… they mentioned less trouble with the higher-resolution screens, but I don’t know if that solved the problem completely. Dell seemed confused by the issue, and was apparently sending it to the engineers to sort out.

    1) Please don't double/cross post. If you need a thread moved, please contact a mod.

    2) These bright spots can sometimes be cause by excessive pressure or heat, but since it's in what I feel is a fairly odd location, I'd wager that someone just messed up at some factory down the line.

Update: Dell replaced the LCD for me. It took approx one week to ship it back and forth. I am quite satisfied with dell's service.

My company has ordered about 50 of these and about 5 of them so far have this bright spot on them in the middle bottom of the screen. This is definately a defect. I wonder what kind of QA they did on these. What a hunk of junk for the price. The D630's had the failing video card issue and now this. When will dell get it right. I am going to attempt to make them come out and replace every screen with one that is going to hold up. Wish me luck.

There should be no problem getting them to replace the defective screens. Looks like Dell probably got a bad shipment of screens.
