Long story short I live in a dorm and sometimes I end up in a situation where I'm working on something in the bedroom when my roommate is going to bed and it would be hard for me to leave and go work somewhere else.

So I turn the brightness as low as it goes and finish up as quietly and quickly as I can but when there's a white background it's still kind of bright and I was just wondering if there was a way to turn down the brightness on the display even lower than what the power options let me do.

Using Vostro 1500 on Windows 7 HP.

go into the graphics options and turn it down there.

If that is still not good enough, you might need to mod the dsdt.

I assume you are using Fn + down arrow? Other option would be to lower the brightness in the BIOS.

After that, you can make changes to the brightness and contrast in the driver.
