    Hi all,

I have a fairly new M4500 laptop which I got new from Dell.
I've had random BSOD's occuring and I'm almost convinced it is NIC related but I am unsure how to fix it as I don't think there are newer drivers than what Dell and/or Microsoft provide for it.

It usually always happens when the network card is stressed (Running large SQL queries and surfing at the same time for instance).

The "file" in question that is listed in the BSOD is e1k62x64.sys

    Any help on this please?

(PS: I have carried out the bsod reader instructions but there is some information in some of the files I cannot release on here which is why I have not attached it on here)

    Thanks in advance

Also: A full format has been carried out 3 times now and reinstall of non-dell image.
Annoyingly, I can go days without it happening but when it does happen, it's always the e1k62x64.sys that causes it.

Go to your NIC manufacturer website (Intel, Realtek, Broadcom etc) and download the latest driver. Dell drivers are usually old and out of date by at least 6 months, usually years though. Google searches show that happens when you upgrade the OS and the drivers are flaky.

I'll give it a go but I'm sure I tried this already

I found a thread online in regards to someone with exactly the same issue - some have had their boards replaced, others have tried other versions of drivers etc
However, one guy made a change to the inf file for the driver which fixed it.

I did this earlier on in the day after posting the thread and then reinstalled the driver with the edited version.

Will update tomorrow when I am back at work and push the card again

    Well keep us updated.

And Dells don't ship out with Norton, they used push Mcaffe and now Trend Micro. I am now seeing Norton available as an option on the new Precisions.

I've had this problem with ALL of our E6410's. I finally resolved it with the latest bios, video card drivers (NVS 3100m in my case) and the latest NIC driver from Intel. I downloaded both the video and NIC drivers direct from the manufacturers websites, and NOT Dell. Since doing this, none of our 10 E6410's has had a BSOD.

You should try the Intel Driver Update utility, found at the URL below. The file name should be PROWinx64.exe Good luck

    Thanks Dillio

I have to say, I'm almost always up2date with drivers however, I do find that Intel doesnt tend to release drivers like...Microsoft patches lets say :)

In the past, I've matched versions between intel and dell support site to be the same which is why mentally, I've stuck to Dell's site.

So far, touch-wood, no bsods. Laptop has been running for 5 days continuously.

I will be back at work tomorrow to push it and maybe find some utilities that can almost benchmark/stresstest the nic if needed.

Dell drivers are almost never updated, my Vostro 1500 drivers end like 2008, nearly 2 years...especially super old computers (2004-2006) almost never have driver updates. Intel generally releases drivers on a constant basis, probably 2-4 a year.
