can't adjust brightness on vostro 1000

    Hello everyone, as you can see i'm new to the site, and i was wondering if any of you could help me out with this problem that's driving me nuts...
    i have a vostro 1000, originally, it's OS was Vista, however i have just upgraded it to windows 7, but now the hot keys of brightness adjustment are not working annymore, all the other function keys are working except just those two. i believe it must be a driver or controller of some sort that needs to be reinstalled or updated, but i can't figure out which one...

    could any of you help me out with this? it's getting to a point where beeing in front of the laptop is hurting my eyes
