Hi, this is a beginner's question. I got a new Dell Latitude laptop and am trying to get it to work with the wireless printer I already have. I need to put in the CD that came with the Canon printer to do it. Apparently this laptop has a combo CD/DVD drive (my last one just had a CD drive). I physically can't get the CD to fit into the drive -- the hole in the middle of the CD is too small. Am I supposed to get an adaptor or something? How do I get this CD to work? Thanks in advance for your help with a question that is probably really dumb. I tried googling this and didn't get anywhere.

Is the hole smaller than another CD's hole?

You can probably download the most current Canon software from their website for your OS. I've installed a Pixma 970 and 990 recently and never used the retail CD. Download the components... install the driver first, and then just the applications you want... I eventually skipped all of the applications except the Navigator for scanning. You can also probably source setup guides online.

All CDs and DVDs should have the same size of hole in the middle. Have you tried the Canon CD in any other CD or DVD drive? Have you tried any other CD or DVD in your Dell laptop?

It is a standard CD. No CDs seem to fit in the drive. I haven't tried a DVD. I will try GKDesigns' suggestion to download the software. I'll also visit my IT helpdesk tomorrow at work and see if they can shed any light on the problem (the reason I need the wireless printer is so I can work at home one day a week, so I'm sure they won't mind helping me out). Thanks to both of you for replying.

Being a portable notebook, the ODD spindle is designed to grab onto the disc. Open the ODD tray, be sure it is well-supported from below, place the disc centered onto the spindle, and firmly press down until it clicks on.

If that doesn't work, then you have a defective ODD build... not likely.

You are always best with downloading the latest printer driver over using the ones from the CD so destroy the CD so you're never tempted to use it again and just DL the latest driver. It's what I ALWAYS do :)
