So turned on my dell latitude e4300 today, and, much to my displeasure, I discovered that both shift, control, and alt keys, as well as the function key, were not working. All the other keys on the keyboard are working fine. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem

If you didn't spill liquid/drop your laptop, check to see if your keyboard ZIF connector is loose. Perhaps genuinely your keyboard is defective?

Update: The keyboard was definitely broken. More keys started to fail. Luckily, the computer was still under warranty and Dell overnighted a replacement.
