    Hi all,

I saw some recommendation from the top forum on the refurbished latitude in dell outlet store. There's a 20% eCoupon on latitude which makes the price very attractive. But I'm not sure about the quality & service of dell's certified refurbished laptop. Anyone purchased such items before can share some experience?

I had a refurbished ASUS before which works ok for more than a year till now and is still working great, but cosmetic-wise it's not very nice when I received it and there's only 3 months warranty so there's some risk. It seems to me dell's refurbished carries standard 1 year warranty also there's another category called scratch & dent. So does that mean dell' certified refurbish will be nicer in terms of cosmetic condition, free of major scratches & stuff?

another question regarding build quality of e6420 or e5420, are they on par with thinkpad T420? I'm trying to decide between the two.

    thanks in advance!

Actually that laptop comes with a standard 3 year warranty. I have been looking at the e6320's on the Outlet which with the coupon are ridiculously low priced. I haven't seen the 6420's in person but would guess they are very similar to the 6320 which is built rock solid. Great keyboard, solid frame. An almost unbeatable value really.

    I say go for it.

I just got my certified refurbished E6520 in today. No cosmetic blemishes at all, if I hadn't seen the green sticker I would've sworn it was new.

The scratch & dents are allowed to have more blemishes than the CRs and they can also be more visible/severe. I was hesitant about the Scratch and Dents (the previous owner could have been rough with them) and found that they weren't always more attractively priced than the CRs, so I went with a CR unit.

I had never purchased refurbished before and it made/makes me a little nervous as well, BUT the e6xx-machines come with 3 years warranty, which is more than you'll get on other models new or refurb, and if you look at what you get for the money (especially with that coupon, which I also used), it almost seems silly not to go for it.

The build quality of this thing, like the E6420 is pretty good. Feels solid and sturdy (also a tad heavy) and well-made: a mix of metals and sturdy plastics. I got the FHD screen and am very impressed with that. Keyboard good, touchpad is an Alps and not the fantastic Synaptics ones I had grown accustomed to, but still good. I don't have any experience with the thinkpad's, but these latitudes I've seen did make a good impression. The build quality doesn't worry me at all.

I also have to say it shipped extremely fast. I ordered Monday morning and Fed-Ex showed up a little after 9 this morning (Wednesday). This was with the currently free 3-5 day ground shipping!

I've had good experience with Outlet. My Latitude 13 arrived pristine and has been good since last November. My E6410 which I ordered early January had random BSOD and the service screw was stripped (not my doing). Dell made it very easy to return to laptop for a refund.

Personally I don't like the look of the new Latitudes, if you don't need the extra processing power, then go for an E6410. It's a much better looking laptop and 16:10 screen!

I have purchased about 10 laptops for myself, family and friends from the outlet. So far, only one arrived with any problem at all. The one was returned at Dell's expense and the funds and coupon applied to another unit.

Each has arrived in new condition with a new 3 year warranty.

I had not problems with outlet laptops.
Just some minor issues covered by warranty.
I had this kind of issues as well with some new laptops, so no real difference.
