    Hi,

I have a M4600 since a while. The fist impression was very good.
After a while I noticed that the notebook makes from time to time some chirping noise. The Frequency is very high, so I think not everybody is able to hear it.
It is very penetrating and I really don't like it.
It comes from somewhere below the numpad.
The source might be some switching voltage regulator.

Is this noise also on other M4600? Perhaps I should ask Dell because something is broken?

    Kind regards,
    Christian

Under the numpad, isn't this where the disk drive is located? What kind of drive do you have, SSD or HDD? Have you tried replacing the drive or even simply disconnecting and reconnecting it to see if the noise goes away?

I have an 510 SSD from Intel.
I noticed the noise first time after I replaced the HDD by the SSD. I will replace it back and hear if the noise is still there. It would really be bad if the SSD is the source. It was way too expensive to make noise!

The SSD should be silent. I suggest calling Dell customer service and describing the problem.

I thought I heard chirping while I was typing one day. Almost like a keyboard squeak.

May just be a chirping VRM or capacitor. Unless you have a way of isolating the various pieces, it will be difficult to pin it down to one component.

I have replaced the SSD by the old HDD and I am using the notebook for two days now.

    The facts:
The result ist that the the noise coming from below the numpad seems to be gone.
But there is also another noise from below the middle of the keyboard (somewhere near to the trackpoint). Its not as loud as the noise from the numpad but it is also annoying.
It is not the squeaking from the space bar. I hear it too, but the chirping noise is also there when I do not touch any key.

    My interpretation:
The SSD draws very little current. I made the experience with other switching power supplies that they make noise on low load.

Now I will do two things:
I will ask Dell about it. The notebook was way to expensive to make such noise!
The problem is that the noise is not always present. So it might be difficult to show it an technican. Because of this I will try to record it. I hope that I have a microphone that works at these frequencies...

Is there anybody except me having this noise?
