My vostro 1400 have been heating up to 90C and I suspect its the dust clogging up the vents. So I bought a can of compressed air. But I dont suppose you just blow it through the fan blades. Is there a guild you guys can link me to on cleaning laptops? thanks

Well you want to spray the dust out of the system not further back into the system...trying taking off some of the back plastic doors and blowing from the inside > out. Basically push the dust out of the system through the vents. You might want to do this outside or in a garage...

If you remove the keyboard, you ll have better access to the parts to blow out the dust.

The keyboard should be pretty easy to remove and would be in the manuals!

Have we forgotten about the quality use of a vacuum cleaner???

For simple dust clogged fan vents, and the keyboard, turn the vacuum on high and suck it clean!!!Yaaahhaaa!!!

If you consult network specialists, they almost never use canned air or blowers for the basic cleaning. It is always a vacuum and/or a very soft natural hair brush applyed as well.

though remember to take care.. if you're using a typical "hoover-your-carpets" type cleaner i'd recommend being a mite gentler with your system, everything inside can be pretty delicate..

the best way to clean it is to take off the back plates / upper keyboard, not only will you then be able to directly blow air through the vents (and unclog anything in there) but you can also "dust off" the rest of your system, including that thin layer of dust that accumulates on your graphics card and heatsinks.

just remember not to shake the can and hold the can away from your laptop initially ( blast air into the air for a half second to make sure you aren't spraying any liquid gas onto your laptop).
