    Hi there,

I got my e4300 from dell outlet a while ago. Today I found there is an option to change ControlVault admin password in DCP, and I found there's already a previous password that I don't know about.

I know this won't make much difference to my use of this laptop.. but I want to just know if there is a way to reset it or there is some default password.. I searched this forum and google, but found no useful information yet.

Pretty sure you can remove it by clearing the TPM. You can also change it in the Embassy software if you know the master password.

Worst case, call or chat into support and they should be able to get you set up.

Caveat: they won't be able to help you if you can't verify that you own the system.

Here the answer that I recieved from Wave Systems. Thank them.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------
Below I have instructions for clearing the ControlVault admin password and then to clear all credentials and enrollments on the computer.

    Clearing ControlVault Admin Password
    1. Open a command prompt by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. (Note: Vista users will need to right click Command Prompt and select “Run as Administrator")
    2. Navigate to the Dell Preboot Manager folder by typing the following:
    o cd C:\Program Files\Wave Systems Corp\Dell Preboot Manager
    3. Type the following to clear the Credential Vault:
    o PrebootEnrollmentUtil.exe prp
(Note: In the above line, prp must be in lowercase)
It will ask the user to swipe their finger or insert smartcard (or wave contactless smartcard) as proof of physical presence on the machine.

All content stored in the Credential Vault will be deleted.

After you have run this command line. You can then go back into EMBASSY Security Center > Platform Security Modules > Dell ControlVault and set the CV Admin password to a known and temporary password, e.g. password. This will allow the “Clear All” option to become available again and then you can select to “Clear All”. The clear all option will clear and refresh all credentials and enrollments. You can then start fresh with the security preferences that you would like set up.
