Well my E6400 would not boot up this morning. It gets to the Dell logo screen and stalls there. Pressing F2, F8, F12 does nothing. None of the F functions respond. Any ideas, hard drive, motherboard.

    Thanks

    Have you tried:

    - Removing battery/AC adapter and holding down the power button for 30 seconds 2-3 times

    - Reseatting RAM/HDD

    - Using known good RAM

    - Hitting spacebar as soon as you get POST

Is your E6400 still under warranty? You can go to support.dell.com and punch in your service tag and look it up.

I would be inclined to remove all removable devices to see if it boots to the BIOS and complains. Then install a stick of RAM and boot again to see if it gets any further. Pull the first stick and try the second. Etc. to see if you can isolate a bad device. But it could be the MB.

No it's out of warranty, I only had the standard one year plan and I've had this for 2. It's been a damn good laptop during that time.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Most E6400 come with a standard 3 year depot warranty if not all.

You removed all devices as GK stated? Have you tried your removing your optical drive as well?

If you've done all we've stated, it could be a bad motherboard.
