Hey guys I picked up a D430 over the weekend and loaded up windows 7 on it and really have been enjoying it. Since I go all over the place for work I would love a Solid State Drive for it but having some toruble finding one that would work for it.

Does anyone have experience using one in this laptop? Size is not a real concern because I can use a larde sdhc for storage

You're looking for a 1.8" ZIF PATA SSD, and the choices aren't very good. Your best option is probably some flavor of the Runcore Pro IV 1.8" PATA ZIF drive which has the fairly modern and speedy Indilinx controller. The speed of the PATA bus will obviously limit the sequential speeds of the controller, but those really aren't that important.

I think there's also a Photofast PATA ZIF drive with the Indilinx, but I've never seen it.

I'd say your only other really good choice is one of the old Mtron MOBI 3000 SLC drives. This one is cheaper than the Runcore at 16GB, but it'll also be a bit slower. You shouldn't notice much of a difference in day to day operations, though, and the Mtron should last longer.

After that, I think all you've got are really early Samsung units or JMicron units, neither of which are all that good.

You can also try using a CF card with a PATA ZIF adapter. I've been running a 300x CF card in my TC4200 for about a year now without any big problems. I feel like it might stutter once in a while, but it's an overall cheap solution if you don't want to spend much money. Just make sure you get something between 200x and 300x speed.

Hey thanks for the information, I think I read somewhere about people using CF cards for drives. I tried to look around for this PATA ZIF adapter but did not have much look to see exactly what I am looking for. Could you possibly point me in the right direction. Cause even still that runcore drive for about 120 also looks like a good option
