I have this D600 and was trying to replace the shell/housing. Upon removing parts, I broke off the FAN socket. I'd tried to solder it back but I don't think I did a good job. I'd put everything back as it should be and now it won't boot, just blink 10x and shut off. Before it was working fine, other than the hinges are broken and so as the support for the hinges. Could the fautly cpu fan cuase 10x blink? I also broke off the model socket also, but I dotn think that's important as the fan. Anyone with any ideas?

Do you have any pictures of the damage?

And no, the notebook shouldn't not power on due to a faulty fan. Have you tried to get a replacement fan?

The BIOS may check that the fan is working before proceeding further (see here). Or may may have detected another electrical problem. It then signals the problem and shuts down. Unfortunately, the BIOS error codes aren't well documented (where Google can find them).

The D-series does spin up the fan before booting, so I think the BIOS checks the fan. Check your soldering.

Yea, thanks for the info guys. The fan didn't come on at all. I will have to shave the tip of my soldering iron so I can resolder it better.
