    I found a D630 on local craigslist for $280 US.

    T7700 model with brand new 9 cell, docking station, and 2 adapters. Good condition.

    Is it worth $280?

    If it works, then I would consider it a good deal since it is much better than a netbook at that price.

    Regardless, it would definately be worth it. Check the service tag too, it may still be in warranty (if it has the Nvidia, the motherboard has an extra year due to Nvidia issue).

    I think its worth it. I picked up a used, somewhat beatup D630 on ebay for about 230, and after purchasing a new hard drive, caddy, + power adapter, it was about 300. Mine came with a t7500 and a used 6-cell battery, and no docking station too.

    Yeah, that's an excellent deal, but you can get E6400's for ~$500 or so, or $750 with 128gb SSDs. But the docking stations for the D-series Latitudes are basically free these days.

    The E6400 is better than the D630:

    a) Slightly faster CPU's available;
    b) Better keyboard(s) on the E6400.
    c) eSATA/Displayport on the E6400.
    d) LED illumination on the E6400 LCDs for better brightness.

    The D630 is better than the E6400:

    e) RS-232 serial port on the D630;
    f) Dirt cheap replacement batteries and spares on the D630;
    g) More rugged case on the D630 and doesn't show scratches as easily as the all-black E6400.

    But yeah, for $280, go for it. All of the wireless cards that shipped with those laptops are just fine. Obviously you'd prefer the Intel video over the Nvidia. And a new 9-cell battery should give you 5 hours battery life.
