I currently have a D820.....I would like to change over to a finger print reading palm rest....Can this be done? Also, is it interchangeable with the palm rest from a D830 ?

To add the fingerprint reader, you only need to change the piece with the touchpad and buttons. You do not need to change the entire palmrest. I do not believe that the entire D830 palmrest will work on the D820, but I can almost guarantee that the D830 touchpad/button thing will.

Check eBay for it, I just found a new palmrest with FPR for ~$16. I upgraded my D620 and D630 to a fingerprint reader by swapping the palmrest (touchpad only for D630, since I moved it from D620). All of the electronics for it are contained in the touchpad assembly, so it will be straightforward.

Save yourself the trouble; the finger print reader blows goats on the D830.

Actually, with UPEK PS QL, it's pretty good. Much more functional than E-series...

Thanks for the warning on the E-series.... Actually my D830 was a pre-build so I didn't get the option of excluding it, but I would have been happer with the non-fingerprint reader base :).
