Is the Intel 5300 much better than the 4965?

    If I wanted a 4965 for my D430, should I get the MM1 or the MM2?

    Thanks

No it isn't a whole lot better. The Intel 4965AGN was the top of the line in that previous generation, the 5300 was the flagship for the last generation and offered higher throughput and and extra antenna for Draft N vs the 4965.

So basically, is there's a price difference of $10, get the cheaper. Unless your running at least a 50MBs/50MBs connection you have no need for the Intel 5300 or 4965AGN for that matter, so either would do.

The MM1/MM2 are related to the old/new versions. MM2 was the newer version, so I would recommend that one. Should work fine.

FYI the 4965AGN has hella range, however I am sure the 5300 matches that range or beats it.

Yeah Crimoned is correct, there is hardly a difference. My Vostro went from a 3945ABG to 4965 AGN (huge difference) and my new Latitude 13 has Intel 5100 AGN and no noticeable difference, though is it worth the jump to a Intel 6300?

Thanks. The 4965 has three antennas, by the way.

Ofc it does, it's a N Draft 2.0 wirless card.

Depends on your router, ISP plan (speed), and laptop chipet IIRC.

I have 25 MB FiOS, planning on upgrading to a Dlink Xtreme N Gigabit dual band router soon. PM965?

PM965 can handle it, no probs. Router is good. I hate Verizon, but otherwise no you won't need a 6300.

Aw shucks lol. Though we originally signed up for 20 MB they upped us to 25 and I've gotten 35 MB through Cat 6 Gigabit Ethernet with Speedtest..

And I'm assuming it's the same with my Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN with my Latitude 13? It has GS45 chipset.

I got both. I tested each using geeks inSSIDer. They were very similar. The power usage in Intel proset was the same. At first, the 5300 signal was about -68ish and the 4965 was -72ish. A little later in the same location, the 4965 (mm2) was in the mid -60s. Since the d430 wifi catcher doesn't work with the 5300 and the 5300 is like $7.00 more, I stayed with the 4965. I fully realize that this is the kind of thing only a bored geek would do, but there it is.
