Hi, I have a broken hinge on my laptop. How easy is it to repair for someone with limited technical expertise/ tools? Can I just buy a new hinge set, take it apart, or would getting a completely new screen be a lot easier? Any help would be really useful.

you can purchase a hinge from http://parts-people.com and maybe from ebay.

    To replace the hinge, you:

Remove the strip above the keyboard,
remove and then unplug the keyboard (5 screws - circle k on the bottom of the laptop),
unplug the orange lcd flat cable(4 screws),
5 screws on the back of the computer (2 on the left 3 on the right),
remove the screen of of the computer, 6 screws around the bezel of the lcd,
4? screws under there and you remove the screen out of the back of the lid,
and then 2 screws along the side of the lcd to remove the whole hinge.

The reverse to put the computer together with the new hinge.

Have a look at around this page from the official service manual for more details.

thanks namaiki, does the strip above the keyboard just prise up. It's loose on the right but I didn't want to break it by pulling too hard just in case.

Yes, it will come right off if you pull it up and kind of forward. Check the service manual for more details.
