This laptop needed a new hard hard drive a few years ago. I started having the same problem with it. I had to use the reinstallation CD and reinstalled Windows and reloaded the drivers. Now, after the Dell logo appears I get a black screen with white bars. It takes about 20-30 minutes for my desktop to appear (after the white bars becomes a solid white bar). Did I load the drivers in the wrong order...wait a minute, I don't think so because even before I loaded the drivers if I started it up this happened. Anyone know what I did wrong? Or is the second hard drive bad?

Was it just re-installed? Sounds like it's taking a long time to access some files, is the system slow after it boots up?

    Thanks for answering.
I reinstalled Windows a few months ago and then left it alone because I was just too busy to mess with it. It has the black screen with the little white bars ever since it was reinstalled.
It is not slow once it finally boots up.

How much memory do you have in the system? Press F12 during POST and run diagnostics, it could be a memory issue.
